Well-being in the Workplace Events

Well-being in the workplace is increasingly important. A lot of us spend so much time hunched over a computer or doing physically demanding jobs. It takes it's toll on our bodies and minds. Many companies now recognize this and provide their staff with workplace well-being sessions.

Over the past couple of months, I've provided well-being sessions to a number of big companies in the North East.

Northumbrian Water

As you probably know, if you live in the North East, Northumbrian Water provide water and sewerage services to homes and businesses across the whole of the North East.

Having previously provided seated acupressure treatments to staff in their Durham head offices, three years ago they asked me to provide the same treatments at their huge Innovation Festival event at Gosforth Racecourse. The festival attracts companies from all over the UK to get together and come up with innovative solutions. This year was my third year at the festival - they keep asking me to do longer sessions each year. You can read more and see photos from the event.

Komatsu UK

Komatsu is a major Japanese manufacturer of heavy equipment for construction, mining and forestry. They make everything from mini-excavators to 800-tonne mining trucks. In 1985, they opened their main UK manufacturing and operations site in Birtley.

I was contacted by their HR department asking if I'd be interested in providing a workplace well-being session at their Thrive Together employee day event. I couldn't say no to such a huge company, so following 3 days at Northumbrian Water's Innovation Festival, I arrived early the next morning at Komatsu. The line was out the door - I had to turn away some disappointed people. The feedback was great so hopefully they'll have me back again next year.

Walker Filtration

Walker Filtration is a leading manufacturer of air and gas filtration equipment and systems. They have sites across America, Asia and Australasia but their headquarters are in Washington in the North East of England.

In 2023, they were looking to provide workplace well-being sessions to staff at their headquarters. They contacted me to discuss what I could provide. The following week, I was on-site delivering seated acupressure treatments for 5 days to around 120 people. I must have done a good job because they've asked me back every year since.

Family Hubs

Family Hubs are local centres that bring together NHS health services, councils and community groups into one place. They provide a range of resources and services to parents and carers who need support.

Every now and again, I send out a "Did You Know?" email to my clients. A recent email was about "Did you know I offer workplace well-being treatments?". One of my clients works for a Family Hub in Durham. As a result of this email, they contacted me and I was asked to come into their office in Chester-Le-Street to provide treatments. Most of the clients opted for seated acupressure but 1 had a Reiki session and some others had an Indian Head Massage treatment. The feedback was amazing from everyone.
